Hybrid wine

Confusing and misleading name for a wine produced from varieties commonly known as hybrids (botanically speaking, all crosses are hybrids - including, for example, Dornfelder or Zweigelt). This refers to wines made from crosses with or among non-Vitis vinifera varieties. With regard to the term "hybrid wine", it is mostly American vines, as is the case with the Austrian speciality Uhudler, for example. See also under direct carriers.
