The winery "Holger Hagen bio.wein.gut" is located in the community of St. Veit am Vogau in the Austrian wine growing region of Southern Styria
. It was founded in 2006 by Dipl. Ing. Holger Hagen through the acquisition of an abandoned, closed-down business. Dipl. Ing. Timo Saier acts as cellar master, René Melcher is responsible for marketing and events. A "Ristorante" is attached, which is run by an Italian family. The vineyards comprise eight hectares of vineyards in the locations Eckberg, Hocheckberg, Grassnitzberg
In addition, there are four hectares in Slovenia
in the so-called Slovenian Lower Styria in the locations Pöllitschberg (Polícki Vrh) behind the border crossing at Spielfeld, as well as Walnussberg (Oréhovski Vrh) near Bad Radkersburg. The white wine varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Welschriesling, Rheinriesling, Weißburgunder, Gelber Muskateller, Morillon and Muskat-Ottonel, as well as the red wine varieties Zweigelt and Syrah are cultivated.
The cultivation is consistently carried out according to ecological principles in line with the strict EU guidelines for an organic vineyard. These include, for example, organic fertilization
, dispensing with chemical herbicides
for plant protection
, natural strengthening of the vines and activation of soil life for a biological balance. According to the philosophy of the house, the processing in the cellar aims to press wine from healthy and fully ripe grapes in the most gentle way and to bottle it as originally as possible. Modern technology is only used where it is beneficial to the wine quality. The wines are vinified with a fruity character and relatively low alcohol content.
