Großer Ring VDP Mosel

This association of top winegrowers was founded in 1908 by the mayor of Trier(Rhineland-Palatinate) Albert von Bruchhausen (1859-1948), where its headquarters are still located today. It was a union of several winegrowers' associations of the Moselle wine region, who sold their natural wines at auctions. Two years later, on the initiative of the same mayor, the "Verband Deutscher Naturweinversteigerer e.V." (Association of German Natural Wine Auctioneers) was founded on a national level. This was the predecessor of today's VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter). Today, the Great Ring is a regional group within the VDP. The association organises various events such as tastings in Germany and abroad with the aim of making the producers known. The 31 members (as of 2019) must be full-time winegrowers, have vineyards in top locations with at least 90% Riesling stock and produce more Prädikat wines than the average. A similar association is the Bernkasteler Ring; see also under Winegrowing Institutions.
