The "Organic Winery Geyerhof" is located in the municipality of Furth bei Göttweig in the wine-growing region of Kremstal (Lower Austria). The farm was already mentioned in the 12th century, and the history of the Geyer family goes back to the 16th century. Due to the passing on of the farm in the female line, the family name has often changed. Ilse Maier had already acquired practical knowledge in German and French wineries during her school holidays. She studied at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Wien and graduated with her thesis on Argentinean viticulture. After returning from her trip abroad, she joined her parents' winery. Her sister Christine moved to the Nikolaihof winery when she married. After her marriage to Josef Maier in 1988, it was decided to convert to organic viticulture for the then five-hectare farm and to implement it consistently.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
