Gabriel René

The Swiss wine journalist and wine critic René Gabriel was born in the canton of Nidwalden in 1957. After his school education he completed an apprenticeship as a chef at the Hotel Gütsch in Bern. In addition to his main job as a cook, he also toured the country with his music band for a while. In 1986 he took over the Hotel Kreuz in Sempach in the canton of Lucerne and presented there the most famous Swiss wine list with more than 1,000 entries. It was there that Mövenpic founder Ueli Prager became aware of him and hired him as head of purchasing in 1990. At the same time, he worked for the ADV (Acádemie du Vin), where he organised specialist courses and trips for private wine lovers
