Chemically inert substances that support filtration in a physical-mechanical way to remove unwanted substances from liquids. These include synthetic resins, diatomaceous earth, perlite and cellulose. In viticulture, they are used to build up the filter cake that is important for purification/separation. See filtration.
There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
