The Fair and Green e.V. association was founded in November 2013 with the aim of being considered a seal for sustainable viticulture. The practical relevance is shown by the fact that renowned winegrowers were already involved when the association was founded: Clemens Busch (Weingut Busch Clemens), Reinhard Löwenstein (Weingut Heymann-Löwenstein), Nik Weis (WG Nik Weis - St. Urbans-Hof) and Philipp Kuhn (WG Kuhn Philipp). The further development of the sustainability standard is supported by an advisory board of Geisenheim University.
The vintners are helped to make sustainability goals objectively measurable and verifiable and to achieve them in an integrative way. Consumers recognise sustainable wines by the seal on the bottle and can choose sustainable products. Fair'n Green is much more detailed than other standards and also includes an analysis of the complete value chain with procurement, viticulture, cellar management and sales. The system is compatible with environmental management, e.g. according to EMAS and ISO 14001. It means:
