Producer description of "Domaine de La Charbonnière"

The winery is located in the municipality of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the area of the same name in the southern Rhône Valley. The name is derived from "Carboniére", a popular term for charcoal burning, which was once practised in this area. The estate was founded in 1912 by Eugene Maret. His son Fernand expanded the business. Today it is run by Michel Maret and his two daughters Caroline and Véronique.

Vineyards

The vineyards cover a total of 27.5 hectares of vines. This includes 19.5 hectares in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC area, 6 hectares in the Vacqueyras AOC area (in Sarrians) and 2 hectares in the Côtes du Rhône AOC area. The best parcels are those in the La Crau vineyard on soils of sand and clay with lots of gravel and flat stones. They are planted with the typical varieties for this area. The vineyards are cultivated according to sustainable principles.
