Dew root

Also called sucker root, aerial root, day root, dew willow and exchange sucker, which the vine forms laterally just below the surface of the soil. They serve to absorb surface precipitation (dew or hoarfrost). They are destroyed during ploughing, but grow back very quickly. Below these are the lateral roots and, at the very bottom, the tarsal roots. See also under Water Retention Capacity and Vineyard Care.
