Producer description of "Croft - Vinhos"

The sherry and port company was founded in 1678 under the name "Phayre and Bradley". In 1736 a Croft from the English city of York became a partner in the company for the first time. After several name changes, the company was renamed "Croft & Co" in 1769. Croft's Portuguese company property is the Quinta da Roêda near Pinhão in the Portuguese Douro Valley, from where, in addition to the production of , sherry from Jerez has been exported for centuries. The most famous brand of port wine is called "Distinction". In 1952 the port wine company Morgan Brothers was taken over. A further milestone was the establishment of a production facility for in Jerez in 1970 with the construction of modern Bodegas on 200 metres of land. With the very successful "Pale Cream" a new type was created. The vineyards in Jerez cover 350 hectares. The best products are a "Fino Delicado" and a "Palo Cortado". The company finally came into the possession of the Multis . In 2001, Diageo sold its port part to , but the buyer had to agree not to use the Morgan brand name (Diageo owns the Captain Morgan Rum brand). The sherry bodegas were sold to in the same year.
