Consorzio

Term used to describe the numerous bodies of wine producers in Italy that represent and promote common interests and, in some cases, set and monitor the regulations in force. One of the best known is the "Consorzio del Marchio Storico Chianti Classico" with the symbol Gallo nero (black cock). In France this corresponds to a "Comité Interprofessionnel", which exists for producers of armagnac, champagne or cognac, for example.
