The winery is located in the municipality of Fargues in the Sauternes region (Bordeaux). The name is derived from a stream (Ruisseau in French) that separates it from the neighbouring Château d'Yquem. In the 18th century, it was owned by the monks of the Carmes de Langon monastery. At the beginning of the French Revolution, it was confiscated around 1790 and sold to M. Marheilhac. After frequent changes of ownership, it was bought by Albert Vuillier in 1971. It was finally acquired by "Domaines Barons de Rothschild" in 1984. Château Lafite-Rothschild also belongs to this company of the French branch of the Rothschild family.
I have great respect for the scope and quality of the wein.plus encyclopaedia. It is a unique place to go for crisp, sound information on terms from the world of wine.
