The winery is located in the commune of Saint-Julien in the area of the same name in the Médoc(Bordeaux). It was founded in 1821 by Hugh Barton (1766-1854) through the purchase of Château Langoa, which gave it its current name. Finally, in 1826, he also bought a neighbouring part of Château Léoville, which was now called Château Léoville-Barton. Today, Anthony Barton and his daughter Lilian Barton Sartorius are the seventh generation to run the wine estates. Barton is an original personality with numerous anecdotes about him. "A magnum bottle? Just the right size for a nice evening. Provided you start the meal with a champagne and end it with a Sauternes, and you're alone".

In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
