The winery is located on the road to Libourne in the Saint-Émilion area (Bordeaux). The estate has been owned by the noble Malet-Roquefort family for around 400 years and is now managed by Comte Léo de Malet-Roquefort. The name is derived from an infirmary for lepers (the old name for the disease was "Gaffets") that was located here in the Middle Ages. During excavations carried out in 1969, the remains of a Roman building with mosaics depicting vines were found on the site. It is assumed that this could be the place where the Roman poet Ausonius (310-395) lived and owned a vineyard. His home is usually attributed to the site of Château Ausone.

In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
