DOCG area for sparkling wines in the Italian region of Piedmont, newly created in 2023. It is the historic core area of Moscato d'Asti in 17 municipalities around the namesake municipality of Canelli. These are Bubbio, Calamandrana, Calosso, Canelli, Cassinasco, Castagnole Lanze, Coazzolo, Costigliole d'Asti, Loazzolo, Moasca and San Marzano Oliveto in the province of Asti, and Castiglione Tinella, Cossano Belbo, Neive, Neviglie, Mango and S. Stefano Belbo in the province of Cuneo. The vineyards cover around 100 hectares of vines. The sweet sparkling wine is made from 100% varietal Moscato di Canelli (Muscat Blanc) and is characterised by a fresh aroma. There is also a Riserva version, which may be marketed after 30 months of ageing at the earliest. Production is around one million bottles. See the history and the other wines or DOC/DOCG areas from this area under Asti.
