Abbreviation for "Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita", the usual designation for quality wines of controlled and guaranteed origin; as an upgrade to the DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) level. They were replaced by DOP with the EU wine market regulation valid from August 2009. However, the old, traditional designations may still be used in addition - see also in detail under Quality System. A list of all DOCG wines/areas is included at the end of the keyword Italy.
