Abbreviation for "Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita", the usual designation for Italian quality wines with controlled and guaranteed origin; as an upgrade to the DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) level. They were replaced by DOP with the EU wine market regulation valid from August 2009. However, the old, traditional designations may still be used alternatively - see also in detail under Quality System.
A complete list of all DOCG wines and areas in the regions is included at the end of the keyword Italy.
