Calosso

DOC area for red wines in the Italian region of Piedmont. The zone includes the namesake municipality of Calosso, as well as Castagnole delle Lanze and Costigliole d'Asti in the province of Asti. The vineyards cover nine hectares of vines at an altitude of 150 to 450 metres above sea level. If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna plus site can be indicated.

The Rosso must contain at least 90% Gamba Rossa, the rest can be other authorised varieties. It must be aged for at least 20 months and have 11.5% alcohol by volume, or 12% if vineyards are named. There is also a Riserva (14%, 30 months). The Calosso Passarà variety is made from dried grapes on 15 December at the earliest (14%, 20 months).
