A genus of mould fungi with around 25 species, which are also known as brush moulds (Latin penicillus = brush) due to their characteristic shape. These fungi love warmth and moisture, usually have a greenish colour and live and spread mainly in temperate climate zones. They thrive mainly on bread, cheese, jams, flour, fruit (mainly apples, peaches, grapes, citrus fruits), bread, fruit juices, cheese, jams and flour.
