Bordeaux Bible

The English professor Charles Cocks brought out the book "Bordeaux, its Wines and the Claret Country" about the châteaux in Bordeaux with the publisher Michel-Édouard Féret in 1846; see there.

In 1846, the English professor Charles Cocks (1812-1854) published a book on the châteaux in the French wine-growing region of Bordeaux under the title " Bordeaux, its Wines and the Claret Country", in which he described and qualitatively assessed them and their wines. In this regard, he said that the price (of a bottle) seemed to him to be the best touchstone of the quality presumed in each wine. The book was published nine years before the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855, where the most important criterion for evaluating the wineries was also the price that the wines of the châteaux...
