The white grape variety originates from the border region of Romania/Ukraine. Synonyms are Băbească, Băbească Gri, Sereksiya Rosavi and Shtur Angur. It is a grey/rosa berry mutation of the red variety Băbească Neagră. It was discovered in Odobesti in 1975 and selected by grower Gh. Popescu. A total of 297 hectares of vineyards were designated in Romania in 2016. There is also a small population in Bulgaria (Kym Anderson).
