The white grape variety originates from the border region Romania/Ukraine. Synonyms are Băbească, Băbească Gri, Sereksiya Rosavi and Shtur Angur. It is a grey/rose berry mutation of the red variety Băbească Neagră. It was discovered in Odobesti in 1975 and selected by the breeder Gh. Popescu. In Romania, a total of 297 hectares of vineyards were designated in 2016 (Kym Anderson). There is also a small stock in Bulgaria.
