Alcueus

The Greek poet Alkaeus (also Alkaios or Alkaeus) lived on the island of Lesbos around 600 BC. Along with Sappho, he was the main representative of Aeolian lyric poetry and wrote true-to-life battle, love and drinking songs in a new verse metre (Alcaean verse). He was the model for the two poets Gaius Valerius Catullus and Horace. The famous saying In vino veritas (In wine is truth) probably originates from Alcaeus.
