Abtsleite

single vineyard in the municipality of Würzburg ( Maindreieck area) in the German wine-growing region of Franconia. The name is derived from "Abt", a reference to former monastery property, and "Leite", the Franconian term for a steep slope or embankment. The south-west to south-east facing vineyards lie at an altitude of 180 to 270 metres above sea level with a slope gradient of 20 to 45%. They cover 31 hectares of vineyards on shell limestone soils with deep loam. The white wine varieties cultivated here include Silvaner, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Traminer and Muskateller. The Breunig, Bürgerspital and Juliusspital wineries, for example, have shares in the site.
