Wine Moon

Old poetic term (also wine month) for the month of October, commonly used in Germany; for example, Martin Luther (1483-1546) called it this. The new moon in October used to be called "Weinschein". See also under Vendèmiaire (designation for October in the French revolutionary calendar) as well as customs in viticulture.
