DOC area for red and white wines in the Italian region (island) of Sicily. The area under vines is relatively small and covers the three provinces of Caltanissetta, Catania and Ragusa. The pure variety wines must contain at least 85% or 80% for the Novello type of each variety, the rest may be other authorised varieties. These are the white wine Ansonica(Inzolia), and the two red wines (also called Novello) Calabrese(Nero d'Avola) and Frappato. The Rosso is obtained from Calabrese/Nero d'Avola (50-70%) and Frappato (30-50%). Five municipalities in this area produce the DOCG red wine Cerasuolo di Vittoria.
