Valsangiacomo

The company "Fratelli Valsangiacomo SA" in Chiasso in the Swiss canton of Ticino was founded in 1831 by Giovanni Valsangiacomo as a pure wine trading company. It was not until 1954 that the company started its own winegrowing activities. Today, the company is managed by Uberto Valsangiacomo in the sixth generation of the family. The own vineyards cover 16 hectares, nine more are leased and grapes are purchased from 35 hectares. All are located in the southernmost region of Ticino, Mendrisiotto. The main variety used is Merlot, from which various red wines are produced. These are the brands Cuvée Speciale, Don Giovanni, L'Ariete, Riserva di Bacco, Roncobello and Rubro, as well as a bottle-fermented sparkling wine. Various white wines are made from Chardonnay. Various grappa are distilled from Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Merlot and Americanos (American vines).
