Spermidine

The biogenic amine occurs in all living organisms and is responsible for cell growth, among other things. The name is derived from the main occurrence in male seminal fluid. Studies in the vinegar fly (fruit fly) have shown that senile forgetfulness can be reversed. Research is being conducted into the possibility of transferring the substance to humans as a drug against senile dementia. The substance is also found in wines (red wines). See also histamine and total extract.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
