The winery is located in the municipality of Escherndorf (Maindreieck area) in the German wine-growing region of Franconia. The Schäffer family, rich in tradition, can be traced back to 1524. From 1900 onwards, Jakob and Ottmar Schäffer ran the Schäffer Bros. winery. In 1988, it was taken over by Egon Schäffer, who is now assisted by his son Peter. A holiday flat is attached. The vineyards cover 3.5 hectares in the Sonnenberg (Untereisenheim), Fürstenberg and Lump (Escherndorf) vineyards. Around 70% of these are steep slopes. The white wine varieties Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc, Riesling and Bacchus are planted, as well as the red wine variety Schwarzriesling, which, however, is vinified as Rosé.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
