Rust en Vrede Estate

The winery is located at the foot of the Helderberg mountain east of the town of Stellenbosch in the South African wine district of the same name. Since 1978 the owner is the former national rugby player Jannie Engelbrecht. The cellar dating from 1780 was restored and in 1984 an underground storage cellar for half a million bottles was created. Due to the soil conditions, the company has specialised in red wines. The vineyards cover 30 hectares. The varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Tinta Barroca are cultivated. The flagship is the "Rust-en-Vrede Estate Wine", an annually changing blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz. The second wine is called "Guardian Peak" and is named after the mountain behind the winery. About 250,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.
