Richter Franz Georges

Franz Georges Richter (1858-????), a vine nursery owner and vine grower, attended the agricultural school in Montpellier (Languedoc) in southern France. There he became familiar with research results in the fields of phylloxera contamination and reconstruction. After his training, he was commissioned by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture to establish vine nurseries in Italy with suitable American vines from France. After his return to France, he founded a vine nursery which soon supplied many winegrowers in France and the rest of Europe with grafted vines. His success was based on extensive trials of adaptation and grafting.
