The Pieroth GmbH winery is located in the centre of the municipality of Burg Layen-Rümmelsheim in Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany). The Pieroth family has been mentioned in documents since 1675. In 1906, Ferdinand Pieroth named viticulture as the main source of income for his business in his diary. His son Philipp Ferdinand Pieroth bottled wine for the first time in the history of the house in 1926. The brothers Kuno and Elmar Pieroth developed a completely new way of marketing wine in 1953. They began offering their wines directly to the customer in the form of a wine tasting at home. Pieroth was thus the first winery in Germany to sell its wines through direct sales. The managing director of the winery is Dirk Friesenhahn, the operations manager is Oliver Dries and the cellar master is Lennart Friesenhahn.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
