Nostrano

Designation (Engl. "ours") for simple country wines or house wines from the Swiss canton of Ticino. Mostly it is a blend of the Barbera, Bonarda, Bondola and Freisa varieties. From this a tannic, tart red wine is pressed, which has a typical earthy taste. It is now mostly produced for the winegrowers' own consumption. If it is sold outside the canton, it is called Colli del Ticino. The term is also used for all Ticino red wines (except Merlot). In addition, Nostrano in Ticino is also a synonym for the grape variety Isabella.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
