Manz Erich

The winery is located in the municipality of Weinolsheim (Nierstein area) in the German wine growing region of Rheinhessen. The traditional family has been growing wine since 1725. Today, the estate is managed in eighth generation by Erich and Eric Manz. The vineyards comprise 20 hectares of vineyards in the individual locations Herrenberg and Sackträger (Oppenheim), Hipping (Nierstein), Kehr (Weinolsheim), Kreuz (Dienheim), Kranzberg (Dalheim), Schloss (Uelversheim) and Steig-Terrasse (Guntersblum). They are stocked with the white wine varieties Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Gewürztraminer, Huxelrebe, Kerner and Ortega, as well as the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir Early, Blauer Portugieser and Dornfelder. The grapes are processed very gently after selective harvesting

The quality pyramid comprises the three lines of estate wines (varietal base quality), terroir wines (loess, clay marl or limestone) and, at the top, the "Collection Manz" site wines. The cool fermented white wines are aged in steel tanks, the red wines after four to eight weeks of maceration in traditional wooden barrels or in barriques. In years with suitable weather conditions, Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein are also pressed. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced. About 150,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The winery is a member of the Pro Riesling Association.

In 2003 the vineyard Evangelische Kirche von Hessen und Nassau was leased. These wines are marketed with their own label.
