Alongside Altenberg, Kapellenberg, Kirchberg, Klosterberg, Rosenberg and Sonnenberg, this is one of the most common single-vineyard names in Germany. There are also the similarly named single vineyard sites Herrnberg, Herrenberger and Maximiner Herrenberg. Herrenberg is included in several other single vineyard names, for example Deutschherrenberg, Domherrenberg, Graf Beyßel Herrenberg and Kirchherrenberg. The name is usually derived from a former manorial estate. It occurs a total of 44 times in 9 of the 13 German wine-growing regions.
