The DOC area named after the city of the same name is located in the Algarve region deep in the south of Portugal. It includes the municipalities of Albufeira and Lagoa. The high-alcohol red and white wines are made from the indigenous varieties Crato Branco (Síria), Negra Mole and Periquita (Castelão Francês).
