The winery is located in the municipality of Winningen (area of Burg Cochem) in the German Moselle wine region. In the middle of the last century Werner Kröber made a good name for himself in Winningen as an independent wood cooper. With the advent of plastic tanks, the traditional cooperage lost more and more importance from the 1960s onwards. The viticulture, which was formerly run as a sideline, became therefore now the main source of income. In 1991 his son Rüdiger and his wife Ute took over the business and expanded it from two hectares to its present size by purchasing steep slopes. The vineyards comprise seven hectares of vineyards in the Winninger locations Brückstück, Hamm, Röttgen and Uhlen. They are 94% planted with Riesling, as well as some Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Noir and Dornfelder. After the harvest, the grapes are processed as gently as possible and without any mechanical stress. Great importance is attached to a long and calm fermentation period. The wines are aged in stainless steel containers as well as in the traditional barrels still made by the father. The bottling usually takes place in the middle of the following year. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines, fruit brandies and liqueurs are also produced.
