Furaneol

Organic compound (also strawberry furanone - chemical name 2,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxy-2,3-dihydrofuran-3-one), which is mainly found in strawberries, but also in a variety of other fruits. It is also responsible for the typical fragrance of fresh pineapple, buckwheat and tomatoes. Furthermore, furaneol is also responsible for the strawberry taste of American vines; see under .
