The winery is located in the town of Deidesheim in the Pfalz wine-growing region. It was founded in 1849 by Friedrich Deinhard from the sparkling wine dynasty of the same name and his wife Auguste Jordan. His son Dr. Andreas Deinhard (1845-1907) took over in 1871 and developed it into one of the most important quality wine estates in Germany. Through his parliamentary activities in the Bavarian Landtag and the Reichstag, he had a major influence on the phylloxera law and the first German wine law. He rendered great service to Palatinate viticulture, among other things as co-founder of the German Winegrowers' Association.
