Doodling

Old Austrian term, especially in Vienna, for a more or less pronounced consumption of alcohol. To "Andudeln" means "to get drunk" and "angedudelt sein" means "to be drunk". Dudeln, however, also means "yodelling" or "bagpipe whistling". The origin probably lies in the Turkish "duduk" (flute). The connection between "music" and "alcohol enjoyment" is easy to make, because one leads to the other in wine bars. The term "Dullijöh" is an onomatopoeic variation of "Dudeln" - if there is a corresponding amount of "gedudeln", you get a "Dullijöh". See also the many different expressions under Rausch.
