Designation for a sparkling wine from the DO area Penedès (name only applies to still wines) or Cava. The artificial word is composed of COR (heart - referring to the origin of Spanish sparkling wines in the heart of the Cava region, which were "invented" here), PINNA (etymological origin of the word Penedès "pinnae") and NAT (born).
In other words, the name means "born in the heart of the Penedès". It is not a DO area, but a so-called European collective trademark. The association "Associació de Viticultors i Elaboradors CORPINNAT" (AVEC) comprises the nine Catalan sparkling wine producers Can Feixes Huguet, Celler Mas Candi, Gramona, Júlia Bernet, Llopart, Nadal, Recaredo, Sabaté i Coca and Torelló. After a lengthy dispute with the Cava Association, they have now been using the trademarked designation CORPINNAT for their products instead of Cava since 2017.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
