Cazes Jean-Michel

The French winery owner Jean-Michel Cazes (1935-2023) is considered a French wine pioneer. As an ambassador, he dedicated his life to promoting and renewing the wines of the Médoc and Bordeaux and was a lover of history and art. After an education at elite French schools and an officer's career in the air force, he was sales manager at IBM France. In 1973 he returned to Pauillac, where his father André Cazes was mayor for many years. He initiated the modernisation and further development of the Château Lynch-Bages and Château Les Ormes-de-Pez estates. In 1986, his friend Claude Bébéar (born 1935), founder of the insurance group AXA, appointed him head of the subsidiary "AXA Millésimes", where the wine activities were handled. He was responsible for this until 2000. During his career, he was also president of the "Union des viticulteurs de Pauillac", administrator of the "Conseil des vins du Médoc" and vice-grandmaître of the "Commanderie du Bontemps" organisation.
