DOC area for red wine in the Italian region of Piedmont. The zone includes the eponymous mountain town of Carema in the extreme north of the province of Torino. The vineyards, which are terraced due to their steepness and cover an area of about 40 hectares, are situated at an altitude of 350 to 700 metres above sea level, which requires a laborious grape harvest and the removal of the grapes via ladders. The wine is made from a minimum of 85% Nebbiolo and a maximum of 15% of other authorised varieties. There is also a longer matured Riserva.
