This traditional winery is located in the town of Almendralejo (Badajoz province) in the DO Ribera del Guadiana in the Spanish region of Extremadura. The Martínez family has been growing wine for five generations and today the estate is run by five brothers. Over the years, the company has developed with the introduction of the most modern techniques in viticulture and the planting of new varieties. The vineyards cover 350 hectares of vineyards on clay soils in the Tierra de Barros sub-area. The red wine varieties Tempranillo, Graciano, Cabernet Sauvignon and Garnacha Tinta, as well as the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Macabeo, Cayetana Blanca, Pardina and Mosecatel are cultivated and processed. Barrels with a volume of 37,000 litres are available for the ageing of the wines. These are marketed under the brand names Payva (sic), Doña Francisquita and J.M. Ortea. Cava is also produced.
