Besserat de Bellefon

The Champagne House was founded in 1843 by Edmond Besserat in Aÿ. In 1927, the company received its present name through the marriage of the founder's grandson Edmond Besserat to the noblewoman Yvonne de Méric de Bellefon. In 1991, the company merged with the Marne et Champagne company founded by Gaston Burtin in 1933. Today, the company is run by its heiress Marie-Laurence Mora as president. The "Cuvée des Moines" line produces particularly fine, sparkling, creamy champagnes with a low carbon dioxide pressure (crémant). There are the variants Brut, Brut Rosé and Blanc de Blancs. These are bottled in the bottle shape commonly used in the 18th century (bulbous body and slender neck). Under the "Grande Tradition" line, the Brut, Demi-Sec and Millésime variants are produced in the classic Champagne style. Around 2.2 million bottles of champagne are produced annually. Tastings and events take place at the company's own "Hôtel Besserat de Bellefon" in Epernay.
