The wine-growing area in Hungary is located at the eastern end of the northern shore of Lake Balaton (Balaton). The vineyards on slate, sand and limestone, due to iron oxide reddish soil, cover about 2,300 hectares of vineyard area. The area is divided into two areas named after the main towns, the wines of Balatonfüred are richer in alcohol. The main grape varieties are Chardonnay, Olaszrizling (Welschriesling), Ottonel Muskotály (Muscat Ottonel), Rajniarizling (Rhine Riesling), Rizlingszilváni (Müller-Thurgau), Sauvignon Blanc, Tramini and Zweigelt. Well known producers are Figula Mihály and Jásdi István.
