The large cooperative association or winery in the municipality of Breisach (Kaiserstuhl area) in the Baden winegrowing region of Germany was founded in 1952 and at that time was called the "Zentralkellerei Badischer Winzergenossenschaften". The responsible persons are Axel Hahn (Director Sales/Marketing) and Wilfried Dörr (Director Production/Oenology). The first own winery from 1970 was replaced by a new building in 1982 on an open space on the outskirts of Breisach. The new cellar was built according to the most modern principles and has been continually adapted to the latest developments. The production capacity comprises around 100 million litres of must and wine.
More than 30 fully-supplying winegrowers' cooperatives are affiliated with the Badischer Winzerkeller and deliver their entire grape yield for pressing. In addition, a contractually agreed share is brought to Breisach by a further 30 co-operatives that supply part of the grapes. A total of around 6,000 winegrowers and winegrowing families are affiliated via this cooperative network. These cultivate over 2,500 hectares of vineyards in all nine Baden areas. This makes the winery one of the largest European cooperative winegrowing operations. The principles are environmentally friendly viticulture and nature-oriented cellar management. Every year, 500 to 600 different wines are produced, separated according to location, variety and quality level. In addition to the pressing of the grapes and the maturing process, the winery is also responsible for marketing the wines.
