The winery is located in the municipality of Oberspay in the German wine-growing region of Mittelrhein. Formerly a mixed agricultural operation, Adolf Weingart converted it to pure viticulture in the second half of the 20th century, thus laying the foundations for today's business. Since 1996, the estate has been run by Florian Weingart and his family. His parents Adolf and Helga Weingart run a holiday home with a view of the Rhine and help out at the winery. Florian Weingart describes himself as an "anarchist", but before this is misunderstood, here is a short extract from the website: Anarchism means humility of man towards things that are greater than him. The anarchist wine simply negates any branding and one-sided classification, it doesn't give a damn about flavour corridors and product pyramids."

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
