The winery "Celler Vall-Llach" is located in the municipality of Gratallops in the Spanish DOCa area of Priorato
(Catalonia). It was founded in 1996 by the local singer-songwriter Luis Llach and the notary Enric Costa, who bought the estates La Final (production, winery) and Cal Valdrich (wine ageing). The vineyards cover 38 hectares of vines, mainly Carineña and Garnacha Tinta varieties, with 60-90 year old vines. The international varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah are also cultivated. Furthermore, grapes from the municipalities of Porrera and Torroja are also purchased. The vineyards are cultivated in a natural way, avoiding the use of chemicals wherever possible. The first vintage was 1998, which was marketed at the end of 2000. The wines are produced in three lines. These are "Vall-Llach" (60% Carineña, 25% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon) "Idus de Vall-Llach" (40% Carineña, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 10% Garnatxa, 5% Syrah) and "Embruix de Vall-Llach" (30% Carineña, 30% Garnatxa, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah). The latter comes (unusually) from very young vineyards. The name "Embruix" (magic) is meant to say that the high quality seems like magic.
