Concha y Toro

The winery in Chile was founded by the noble Don Melchor Concha y Toro (1833-1892) in 1883. The eldest of three brothers, he had graduated as a lawyer in 1857 and started a political career in 1864. The company started with Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Merlot imported from Bordeaux. In 1923, the family business was the first Chilean winery to go public on the Santiago Stock Exchange (and in 1994 also on the New York Stock Exchange). Wines were exported to...
