The winery "Salzl Seewinkelhof" is located in the municipality of Illmitz in the Burgenland wine-growing region of Neusiedlersee
(Austria). The Salzl family, which is rich in tradition, was already engaged in winegrowing in 1840. A pension is attached. Since 1985, the family business has been run by Josef Salzl, who concentrated on red wines and began maturing in barriques in 1990. His son Christoph is a graduate of the commercial academy for viticulture and agricultural management and is responsible for sales and cellar work. Three generations have been working in the company. In 2009, a new cellar, which is exceptional both technically and architecturally, was opened in the middle of the vineyards, as indicated by the address "Between the Vines".
Our own vineyards cover 20 hectares in the areas of Lüss, Martenhof, Römerstein and Sandriegel. Grapes are delivered by contract winegrowers with a total of 60 hectares. The red wine varieties Zweigelt, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Blaufränkisch
and Syrah are processed to 75% and the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Grüner Veltliner, Bouvier and Sämling 88 to 25%. Only healthy, fully ripe grapes are processed through selective harvesting
The white wines and certain red wines are classically aged in steel tanks. Special red wines mature for different lengths of time up to 24 months in new barriques. The large product range includes the red wine Neusiedlersee DAC
(Zweigelt), the white wine "New Style" (Chardonnay), as well as the two red wine cuvées "Pannoterra" (Zweigelt, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon) and "3-5-8 Premium" (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon). In years with suitable weather conditions, sweet wines such as Beerenauslese
are also pressed. A Frizzante
(sparkling wine) is also produced. About one third of the production is exported to 17 countries.
