DOC area (also Kalterer, ital. Caldaro or also Lago di Caldaro) for red wine in the Italian region Trentino-Alto Adige. The largest part is located in the northern region of South Tyrol (Alto Aldige), but there are also some municipalities in the southern part of Trentino.
The zone comprises the municipalities of Andriano/Andrian, Appiano/Eppan, Bronzolo/Branzoll, Caldaro/Kaltern, Cortaccia/Kurtatsch, Egna/Neumarkt, Magre' all'Adige/Margreid, Montagna/Montan, Nalles/Nals, Ora/Auer, situated around Lake Caldaro, Termeno/Tramin and Vedena/Pfatten in the Province of Bolzano/Bolzena in South Tyrol, and Cembra, Faedo, Giovo, Lavis, Lisignago, Mezzocorona, Rovere' della Luna and San Michele all'Adige (with famous viticultural institute) in the Province of Trento in Trentino. The historical area Classico or Classical zone includes Appiano/Eppan, Bronzolo/Branzoll, Caldaro/Kaltern, Cortaccia/Kurtatsch, Egna/Neumarkt, Montagna/Montan, Ora/Auer, Termeno/Tramin and Vedena/Pfatten (Province of Bolzano/Bolzena).
